Orbis Terrarum Challenge

so this post is about the orbis terrarum challenge.
"orbis terrarum" means circle the world, or so the website says. :P assuming it is right, here is the deal about the challenge. it contains a number of subdivisions like OT reading challenge, OT bilingual, OT film, OT short stories and OT poetry.
the main purpose of all these OTs is to get familarized with the various art forms, of the whole world. and when i say art, it includes, literature and movies.
since i cant stand short stories, and i cant read books in different languages and am real dense when it comes to poetry, i decided i'll take up the OT reading challenge and OT film challenge.
OT reading challenge goes like this: OT starts from april and ends with november. so in these 8 months you'll have to read 8 novels of 8 different authors who are from 8 different countries. and you can post the reviews on the OT site.

OT film challenge goes like this : you'll have to see 8 films, directed by 8 different directors who are from 8 different countries again.

i found the idea pretty exciting. i was supposed to take up this challege last year. i talked my friend aki into taking it up, but both of us couldnt even read one. thats a different story though. i found this today when i was reading our old chats. what's new with OT 2010: its for 8 months, unlike OT 2009 which was for 12 months.

the reason why i want to take this up is, i read books. but its basically american fiction, some classics and indian writing in english. there is no variety in what i read. and am also interested in different cultures. it'll be pretty interesting to know the cultures of countries am not familiar with! for instnce, i always thought of uganda as a place full of tribal primitive people and which has dense forests. but i was surprised to know uganda is quite a civilized place and many indians do live there! surprise surprise! and movies, chancey. i see only tamil, hindi and english. *shamefully admits* i have difficulty in understanding the english accent. :( american accent is much easier! and since i always wanted to learn foreign languages (read it as "italian" :P), this would be the perfect chance to test which sounds good.

so people, whoever is reading this post, please take time to go through this website. am sure it would be fun and a nice experience!
